Adventures 2006

I took this Sunday morning. Can you believe it's the day before Memorial Day? It was 75 last week and now it's snowing. It started last night. Not too much is sticking. Saw a grizzly while doing laundry this morning, too. I walked out of the laundry room and there he stood, staring back at me. He was about 20yards away. He was obviously as suprised to see as I him. We stared at each other for what felt like forever and then he wandered off in the snow between the houses. Sorry, no pics. It really wasn't a priority at the moment :)This picture was taken in the direction I saw the though. He was just beyond my building. Posted by Picasa

A female moose hanging out along Yellowstone River. Moose are a very rare site in the park. They are like the wolves and stay very far from people most of the time. I've been lucky enough to see two so far this spring. Posted by Picasa

The Grand Tetons in all their glory! They are so beautifull. Posted by Picasa

My traveling companion. Neiko is a 7month old Pacific Parrotlet. She travels really well, but just doesn't understand why mom won't let her out in the car. I also travel with a 4 ft black and white king snake named Mishi. Sorry no pics of her. I'll add one later. Posted by Picasa

I took this on my first day in the park. It's just south of Grant, about 40 min from Lake. There wasn't as much snow in my residential area as this, but we still have quite a bit. Don't let the road side fool you. The snow is just as deep in the woods behind the drift, it's not that high because of the snowplow. Snow is measured by the foot here, not inches. Posted by Picasa

A view from the mountain top behind my house. There is still a lot of snow up there and I got pretty wet on the hike. You can see my house in the developed area at the bottom of the pic. I have a larger place this year. It has a fireplace in it and everything! I'm very excited about it! Posted by Picasa

The same 5 yr/old bear about 5 days later. I saw him sleeping next to a tree along the roadside. There was a lot of people watching him, so he descided to wander off where it was quieter. (Notice the lake is no longer frozen in the background.) The reason they hang so close to the road is because "mom" teaches them to. When they are growing up, she shows them where to sleep, feed, hunt, etc. and if she shows them the road side is a good place for clover, they hang there most of their lives. Posted by Picasa

Icebergs form near the shore when the wind bunches up the broken ice. Some of them were as tall as me(5'3"). Posted by Picasa

Yellowstone Lake frozen over. I took these photos when I first got here (about a week ago). The lake doesn't have a bit of ice on it now. When it started to melt, it took only about 4 days for it to completely go away. Posted by Picasa

First bear of the season. He's a 5 year old grizzly who hangs around the east side of the park. He was about 40 yrds away in this pic. I'm sure I'll see more of him before the season is out. Posted by Picasa
